LIBERIA: A NATION IN RECOVERY

The war is over -- but the struggle continues.
It is impossible to talk about the fistula epidemic in Liberia with out also speaking of the continuing effects of Liberia's long and brutal civil war.  An entire generation of people in Liberia grew up knowing only war. Many have never been to school, and most have limited access to unreliable public services, including healthcare. Liberia is rebuilding, but reconstruction will take years, even decades.

Learn how Liberian women helped to save their nation from continuing civil war.

The award-winning documentary entitled, Pray the Devil Back to Hell, chronicles the plight of Liberians as a result of more than 14 years of civil war, and how the strength and character of the people, especially women, ultimately created peace.

We encourage you to watch and grow in your respect for the strength and dignity of the Liberian people. View the PBS episode online.

Small Small Thing Documentary

Another award-winning documentary, Small Small Thing follows the story of 9-year old Olivia suffering from severe, life-threatening injuries from a brutal rape that occurred when she was 7.

Throughout the documentary, Olivia and her mother are shunned from their tribe members for seeking outside help and are left stranded and at the mercies of President Sirleaf's government in Monrovia, the capital city of Liberia.
