Rehab Palava

You may recall from a previous blog that in traditional Liberia, palava huts are gathering places for important discussions and casual gatherings.  Before the Rehab Center in Phebe built its modern classrooms last year, the kitchen was an open-air structure that served as the center’s palava hut.  Over time, it had fallen into a state of disrepair.  Once the new education building was built, the kitchen was torn down.  In this day of texting and instant messaging this may not seem like a big deal.  However, in a culture where an emphasis is placed on assembling together to share news, the loss of a central gathering place is distressing.

The Rehab Center asked if Dignity:Liberia could help.  At our January 2018 board meeting, we decided to do just that.  By a unanimous vote, Dignity:Liberia approved funding the building of a palava hut for the Rehab Center.

Construction is well underway and we want to share the pictures that Kathi recently received.  We thank all of you who have generously donated to support the fistula survivors.

Some people will define dignity with the pleasure of being tidy and the freedom to say no to things that can make any normal human puke. They say there is no dignity during war because cities are destroyed and there's not much food, water and shelter so humans are prone to abuse and neglect especially women and children. They can't protect themselves. No one can get a nice bath. People are prone to infections. I think this maybe the reason why some people would rather kill themselves. This is one way to still feel dignified.

It really wouldn't hurt to be made aware of what is happening halfway across the globe. We will never really know when we could use all these little things we know about the overall temperament and culture of other countries. It pays to know their history and why they seem to act the way they do. It enables us to better understand them and relate with them. Knowing their own fears and what are the little things that make them feel alive can make a lot of difference between peace and order situations.

Can we just be real for a minute, folks, each of has our ideal kind. It doesn't make any difference what your sort is-short, tall, thin, dark, brown, yellow, white, red, purple. are ladies online who have more cash than you, and there are ladies online who have a bigger number of tattoos than a convict.
